New Members

Newcomers are always welcome. To visit us to see what we do, you do not need to have a firearms license however to join our Club we require you have a current Firearms License. To be clear, the purpose of joining our Club is to participate in the sport of pistol shooting, not just to own a handgun but to shoot it in organised Club events and to be an active member.

Each Saturday afternoon the Club runs a pistol match called  IPSC (generally referred to as ip sic) and new members are invited to attend to have a look around to see if this interest's you, it also gives the club a chance to meet with you and answer any questions you may have.

It can be a bit taunting turning up for the first time so feel free to bring a friend with you, as you never know they may like to join as well. On arrival at the range ask to be pointed to a committee member or alternatively the name you are given when you contact us.

Important Do's and Don't:

  • Do make sure you introduce your self to the shooters that are there. We are a social club and more than happy to talk to you and answer any questions.

  • Do bring something to drink/eat - Hydration is important to help keep you sharp. Food is equally important, so as it can be a long afternoon you may get peckish

  • Do help out with setting up targets, patching targets, brass pick ups etc. The more you get involved the more you will get out if the experiance. It will also allow members to see you getting involved.

  • Don't touch any firearm or equipment without the express permission of the owner. This is common sense and for reasons of safety. Most shooters will be happy to show you their gear and maybe even have a shoot with their pistol/s, remember to thank them for the opportunity

  • Don't sit back and not participate - you get out what you put in

  • When you are allowed to participate in the shooting activities ammo can be purchased from the club, so if you wish to shoot you will need to make sure you either bring ammo or arrange to purchase from the club. For either of these options you will need to contact the Club Secretary to find out what ammo to purchase or to arrange the purchase from the club. It is advisable that you do this prior to turning up on the day.
The club owns a number of pistols for new members to use. We have a 9mm and a couple of 22cal. All newbies will only be allowed to shoot the 22cal until such time as they become a member of the club or is approved by committee member on the range on that particular day.

The club runs a "Beginners Course" to take you from knowing something about shooting or knowing nothing at all about shooting through to being a safe and competent pistol shooter. The instruction is tailored to assist you have a safe and enjoyable time while you learn at your own pace. Safety is very important and in addition to the Beginners Course we run a safety course called the Range Conducting Officers (RCO) course.
